The Greasy Strangler
How to describe The Greasy Strangler? It’s part father-son relationship drama, part schlock monster movie, and part 70s sleaze, all staged with the precision of a Wes Anderson film, and seeped in British-style absurdist humor. You will either love it or hate it. I can’t imagine a middle ground.
I loved it. I loved how hard it leans into the uncomfortable. A prolonged sequence involving international tourists and the word “potato” brought tears of laughter. The multiple scenes involving male genitalia elicited guffaws. This film pushes through funny, through grotesque, through annoying, and into an absurdity that mixes Monty Python with David Cronenberg. You’ve been warned… and encouraged
